Overcoming Autism's Sensory Struggles: Finding The Right Vitamins

5 Tips For Dealing With Springtime Allergies

Spring brings more than warm weather and beautiful flowers. It may also trigger allergies in some people. If you are one of the many people who suffer from allergies, you may dread it when spring starts. However, if you make a few lifestyle changes, you can reduce your symptoms and feel better. Here are five helpful tips for dealing with springtime allergies

Try to Stay Indoors

If you are able, try to stay indoors in the mornings when pollen counts are the highest. If you go outside and breathe in the pollen grains, you may have an allergic reaction. If you must go outside, you should at least wear sunglasses to keep the pollen out of your eyes. If the pollen counts are very high, you may even want to consider wearing a mask.

Do not Wait to Take Allergy Medication

If you take your allergy medication when you first notice symptoms, it may be too late. It is best to start taking your allergy medication a couple of weeks before symptoms appear. If you medicate yourself before your allergies get too severe, you are more likely to get relief.

Keep Your House Clean

When you suffer from allergies, it is even more important to keep your home tidy. Remember to dust your furniture and vacuum your carpeting at least once a week to remove dust mites and other allergens from your house. Also, ask your guests to remove their shoes before walking around in your house.

Try a Saline Nasal Rinse

While allergy medications are effective, they can make some people feel tired and groggy. If you do not like the way these medications make you feel, you may want to try a saline nasal rinse. This will clear pollen out of your nasal passage, helping you breathe much easier.

Wear a Mask While You Do Outdoor Chores

While it is best to avoid outdoor chores when you have allergies, they sometimes can't be avoided. If you must do gardening or another outside chore, you should at least put on a mask first to reduce the amount of pollen you breathe in.

Springtime allergies do not have to be unbearable. If you follow these helpful tips, you can improve your symptoms and breathe easier. However, if you still can't find relief, you should make an appointment with your allergy doctor. He or she may prescribe you a stronger allergy medication.

Overcoming Autism's Sensory Struggles: Finding The Right Vitamins

Having a child on the autism spectrum poses all kinds of unique challenges that can sometimes be very difficult. The sensory issues that often accompany spectrum disorders can mean that even everyday things like taking vitamins may be a serious struggle. For my son, it's both texture and taste that pose challenges for him, which made finding a vitamin supplement very difficult. After experimenting with many different brands, styles, and flavors, I have found what does and doesn't work for various sensory issues that he has. I've created this site to share our experiences in the hopes that it might help other parents with kids on the spectrum to find a vitamin their child will take.
