Overcoming Autism's Sensory Struggles: Finding The Right Vitamins

Three Factors To Help You Customize Your Breast Implant

The feel, texture, and shape of your breast implants have a big influence on how your breasts will look after the surgery. This means you should choose your implants with your desired goals in mind. Here are three critical factors that you must consider:

Feeling

Do you mind how your breast will feel after the implant? If you do, then you should opt for silicone implants. According to Mayo Clinic, silicone implants are filled with silicone gel, and it is the gel that mimics the natural feel of human breast fat. Just note that you can only get silicone implants if you are at least 22 years of age. If you haven't yet reached that age, then you will be advised to use saline implants (minimum age 18).

Texture

You might also be concerned about the resulting texture after the implant surgery. The implant can either be textured or smooth, with both having distinct features.

Smooth Implants

Here are a few things you should know about smooth implants, which have the feel of a balloon:

  • Have thinner shells
  • Move freely in their pockets
  • Low risks of rippling
  • Relatively inexpensive

Textured Implants

Apart from their sandpaper feel, they have the following features:

  • Higher rate of leaking and rippling
  • Have thicker shells
  • Lower rates of capsular contracture (breast hardening due to scarring)

Shape

Apart from texture and feeling, shape is another common concern for women who want breast implants. There are two available shapes:

Round

Round implants are shaped just like their name suggests. Here are a few things you should know about this shape:

  • Shifts/moves without distorting your breast's shape
  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Tend to give more upper pole fullness
  • Some feel they don't look like natural breasts
  • Available with both textured and smooth surfaces

Anatomical

As for anatomical implants, the design is meant to mimic the natural shape of the breast, which is tear-shaped (heavy bottom and thinner/lighter tops). Here are a few things to know about them:

  • Shifting can easily distort them
  • Must be placed by very experienced surgeons to give the desired natural shape
  • Are only available with textured surfaces

These are some of the factors that determine the attractiveness and feel of the breast after an implant. By extension, they may also decide how well you are satisfied with your breast implant surgery. As such, it is important to discuss them in detail with your plastic surgeon so that you know exactly what you are getting out of the surgery.

Overcoming Autism's Sensory Struggles: Finding The Right Vitamins

Having a child on the autism spectrum poses all kinds of unique challenges that can sometimes be very difficult. The sensory issues that often accompany spectrum disorders can mean that even everyday things like taking vitamins may be a serious struggle. For my son, it's both texture and taste that pose challenges for him, which made finding a vitamin supplement very difficult. After experimenting with many different brands, styles, and flavors, I have found what does and doesn't work for various sensory issues that he has. I've created this site to share our experiences in the hopes that it might help other parents with kids on the spectrum to find a vitamin their child will take.
